The Ronald McDonald House in Hershey opened its doors on Nov. 19 and welcomed the first guest family to the original 13-bedroom home.
1993
An eight-bedroom wing was added to the Ronald McDonald House in Hershey and is dedicated to the memory of Bob Burgess and his daughter, Pamela, through the Burgess Foundation.
2000
The Family Room opened at Penn State Health Golisano Children's Hospital featuring a living room that converts to provide overnight accommodations, kitchen, computers, laundry area, and shower.
2009
Ground was broken to expand the 21-bedroom Ronald McDonald House to 36 bedrooms.
2010
Grand opening of expanded 36 bedroom Ronald McDonald House.
2013
The Hospitality Cart debuts at Penn State Health Golisano Children’s Hospital supplying pediatric patients and their families with snacks, small games, arts, crafts, and personal care items.
2013
The Ronald McDonald House Family Room is renovated with new appliances and furniture.
2019
The Ronald McDonald Hospitality Kiosk opened at Lancaster General Hospital providing a welcoming environment; offering nourishing snacks, drinks, health and beauty aids, small activities and a place of respite for families while their child is receiving essential pediatric care.
2020
In 2020, the Ronald McDonald Family Room® was renovated and relocated to the 8th floor of Penn State Health Children's Hospital, just outside the NICU. The refreshed space offers a warm, home-like retreat with seating, work areas, and amenities— just steps away from their baby’s care.
2024
The Cart with a Heart program at UPMC Harrisburg brings hospitality directly to patients and families through a mobile cart stocked with comfort items, snacks, and essentials. Staffed by volunteers, it offers small moments of care and connection during hospital stays.
